SIRIS' staff have qualifications and experience in environmental and risk analysis, natural resource assessment and management, investment analysis, management consulting, legal compliance, planning, technology analysis and assessment.

Charles Macek
Chairman of the Board
Charles is currently Chairman: Sustainable Investment Research Institute; Racing Information Services Australia Pty. Ltd.; vice-chairman IFRS Advisory Council. Director: Wesfarmers Ltd.; Earthwatch Australia. Member: Investment Committee, Unisuper; Australian Advisory Board MMC Inc.; ASIC External Advisory Panel.

Charles' executive career included more than thirty years investment management and capital markets experience. During 1982-1984 Charles was Director and 1984-1985 Managing Director at Wardley Investment Management Ltd. He was the founding Managing Director of County Investment Management Ltd in 1985 and Chairman from 1995-2001. During 1990-1997 he was also Managing Director of Dai-ichi Life County NatWest Investment Management Ltd. (a Tokyo based joint venture between Dai-Ichi Life and NatWest Bank) and was a Director of County NatWest Australia Ltd. (subsequently renamed Natwest Markets Ltd.) from 1992-1997

Former Board roles include: Victorian Superannuation Board, Emergency Services Superannuation Scheme; VicSuper Pty Ltd; County NatWest Investment Management Japan Ltd; National Australia Financial Management Ltd; Living Cell Technologies Ltd.; Richmond Football Club; Chairman, IOOF Ltd; Victorian Councillor, Securities Institute of Australia; Chairman Australian Investment Manager's Association (AIMA); and Member: Victorian Council of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He was a director Telstra Corporation 2001-09 where he also chaired the Remuneration Committee. He was a member of the Financial reporting …….New Zealand Accounting Standards Review Board. Also Chaired, Strategic Review Taskforce, Securities Institute of Australia.

Mark Bytheway
Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Mark has qualifications in law, economics and accounting, and post-graduate qualifications in environmental science. He has more than 15 years’ capital markets experience, including work with an international credit ratings agency, and eight years in funds management, two of which as Director of Research, Asia Pacific, for an international investment management group.

Prior to rejoining the funds management industry two years ago and following environmental studies, Mark spent three years consulting in the areas of environmental risk analysis, environmental liability evaluation and resource valuation, initially independently and more latterly with several development banks and finally with a large international consulting group. Outside of work, Mark is kept busy with his wife raising their four children, Isabel, Oliver, Charlotte and Henry. When time permits they reflect on all the things they did prior to the children.

Ben Spruzen
Associate Director, Research
Ben is Associate Director, Research at SIRIS and has qualifications in economics and management and post-graduate qualifications in environmental science. He has more than 8 years' experience in the ESG field, including work with a leading Australian university, providing analysis and advice to a wide range of investors and industries, and most recently the property sector through specialised research and analytics.

Prior to joining SIRIS Ben gained experienced providing environmental risk analysis in the energy sector. Ben is an accredited Green Star Professional (Green Building of Australia), Director of PLAnetWare Pty Ltd and a Board member of the Responsible Investment Association of Australasia (RIAA)..

Lucia Dileva
Business Operations Manager
Lucia is the Business Operations Manager responsible for the overall efficiency of the SIRIS office. She brings with her 20 years administration skills with experience in marketing and manufacturing sectors. Her interests include interior design and spending time with her family. Lucia and her husband have 2 children, Matthew and Isabella.

Chui Lee
Accountant
Chui’s broad experience in Accounting covers all areas including Management Accounting, Accounts Payable/Receivable and Payroll. Chui holds a Bachelor of Economics (Accounting Major). In her spare time, Chui enjoys bushwalking and reading non fiction books.

Shelly Xue
Research Analyst
Shelly is a Research Analyst at SIRIS with a solid grounding of environmental science and a strong interest in sustainability issues. She holds a BSc in Chemistry from Fu Dan University in China and a Master degree in Environmental Science from The University of Melbourne. Shelly's work experience in the environmental science and management spans in various industries including pharmaceuticals, renewable energy and mining, across the countries of Australia, China and Lao PDR. In her spare time, Shelly enjoys cooking, travelling and spending time with family and friends.

Satomi Ichiba
Research Analyst
Satomi specializes in Japanese market. She studied at Doshisha University in Japan and obtained Bachelor of Economics degree from Monash University. Prior to joining SIRIS, she coordinated paralegal translation team at a commercial litigation firm based in Melbourne. In addition to English and Japanese, she also has intermediate Mandarin skill. Outside work, Satomi enjoys travelling, watching and playing sports, and cooking.

Stefanie Phelan
Research Analyst
Stefanie is a Research Analyst at SIRIS, with a background in environment and sustainability. She holds a Bachelor of Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo, where she majored in Environment & Resource Studies with a minor in political science. Presently she is undertaking an MA in International Development and Environmental Analysis at Monash University. Prior to joining the team at SIRIS, Stefanie worked in waste management and forest research. In her spare time, she enjoys cycling, rock climbing, traveling, and camping.

Reiko Yamada
Research Analyst
Reiko is a research analyst as SIRIS. She has a strong interest in environmental management and has completed a Master of Environment degree at the University of Melbourne. She is also actively volunteering for Engineers Without Borders Australia, assisting overseas and indigenous Australian development programs. In her spare time Reiko enjoys art, music and dining out with friends.

Shula Webb
Research Analyst
Shula is Research Analyst at SIRIS with specialty in Japanese companies. Shula holds an MA in Folklore from the University of the Ryukyus in Okinawa, Japan. She completed a BA from Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand and also studied at Meiji Gakuin University in Yokohama, Japan. Shula has worked as a Japanese to English translator and as an English language teacher in Japan. She enjoys running, playing sports and spending time with friends

Miki Yamamoto
Research Analyst
Miki is a Research Analyst at SIRIS, in charge of Asian research, mostly covering Japanese companies. Miki worked as an IT system consultant at a major telecommunication company in Japan. She holds Bachelor of Law from Nagoya University in Japan and Master of Business Information Technology from RMIT University. Outside of work, Miki enjoys playing sports and spending time with friends.

Akiko Shimizu
Research Analyst
Akiko is a member of SIRIS’ Asian Research team, mainly covering Japanese Companies. She has an extensive career in FMCG industry in the field of Sales and Marketing (brand management and business strategy development) having worked for a several multi-national food companies that have strong exposure in Australasia and Asian regions. She is currently studying a postgraduate program at Melbourne Business School. Outside of work, she loves cooking, experimenting various recipes from cook books.

Tom Lehner
Research Analyst
Tom is a Research Analyst at SIRIS and is focused on Australian and other non-Japanese Companies. Tom completed a Bachelor of Science at the University of Tasmania, majoring in Zoology and Psychology. He recently completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Environment at the University of Melbourne, which incorporated climate change politics and policy, sustainable landscapes and environmental education. He has a strong interest in environment, sustainability, and biodiversity. Outside of work, he enjoys art, cooking, and spending time with friends.

Yukari Kaito
Research Analyst
Yukari moved to Melbourne to attend the University of Melbourne as a student in the Master of Environment program. She has strong Japanese and English language skills and brings with her research experience undertaken during her time with New York Botanical Garden Systematics Laboratory, Sarah Lawrence College, NY, Domini Social Investments, NY and Crisis and Environment Management Policy Institute, Japan along with various related courses. In her spare time she enjoys reading, watching tennis and soccer and cooking.
