Charles Macek
Chairman of the Board
Charles is currently Chairman: Sustainable Investment Research Institute (SIRIS); Racing Information Services Australia Pty. Ltd. (RISA) and Orchard Funds Pty. Ltd.; Director: Wesfarmers Limited, Telstra Corporation Limited; and, Member: Investment Committee, UniSuper Ltd . He was a member of the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) from 2000 and its Chairman from 2003-2007 and concomitantly a member of New Zealandfs Accounting Standards Review Board.
Charles' executive career included more than thirty years investment management and capital markets experience. During 1982-1984 Charles was Director and 1984-1985 Managing Director at Wardley Investment Management Ltd. He was the founding Managing Director of County Investment Management Ltd in 1985 and Chairman from 1995-2001. During 1990-1997 he was also Managing Director of Dai-ichi Life County NatWest Investment Management Ltd. (a Tokyo based joint venture between Dai-Ichi Life and NatWest Bank) and was a Director of County NatWest Australia Ltd. (subsequently renamed Natwest Markets Ltd.) from 1992-1997.
Former Board roles include: Victorian Superannuation Board, Emergency Services Superannuation Scheme; VicSuper Pty Ltd; County NatWest Investment Management Japan Ltd; National Australia Financial Management Ltd; Living Cell Technologies Ltd.; Richmond Football Club; Chairman, IOOF Ltd; Victorian Councillor, Securities Institute of Australia; Chairman Australian Investment Manager's Association (AIMA); and Member: Victorian Council of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Also Chaired, Strategic Review Taskforce, Securities Institute of Australia.
Mark Bytheway
Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Mark has qualifications in law, economics and accounting, and post-graduate qualifications in environmental science. He has more than 15 years’ capital markets experience, including work with an international credit ratings agency, and eight years in funds management, two of which as Director of Research, Asia Pacific, for an international investment management group.
Prior to rejoining the funds management industry two years ago and following environmental studies, Mark spent three years consulting in the areas of environmental risk analysis, environmental liability evaluation and resource valuation, initially independently and more latterly with several development banks and finally with a large international consulting group. Outside of work, Mark is kept busy with his wife raising their four children, Isabel, Oliver, Charlotte and Henry. When time permits they reflect on all the things they did prior to the children.
Ben Spruzen
Associate Director, Research
Ben has experience within the ESG field providing analysis and advice to a wide range of investors and industries including energy, construction, education and most recently the property sector through specialised research and analytics. He holds a B.Com (Economics & Mgt) and Masters in Env.Sc, is an accredited Green Star Professional and Board member of the Responsible Investment Association of Australia (RIAA). Outside of work, Ben enjoys surfing, riding his mountain bike and eating good food with great friends.
Tomohiro Matsuoka
Senior Research Analyst, Head of Asian Research
Tomo coordinates Asian research business with specialty in Japanese company and related market corporate sustainability analysis. He has previously worked at Bridge Information Systems in charge of managing data for Japanese financial market and the International Relations Unit of the University of Melbourne. Tomo holds a BA (Hons) Political Science and BA Psychology and Political Science both from the University of Melbourne. Outside of work, Tomo is involved in community broadcasting at Radio 3ZZZ, producing Japanese radio program over the past 13 years.
Michael Bierwirth
Research Analyst
Michael is a Research Analyst at SIRIS, who has strength in Corporate Governance research and in charge of benchmarking and proxy voting advice. He has previously worked for Telstra. Michael holds a BBus (Law) and a Master of Business Law, both from Monash University. Outside of work, Michael enjoys catching up with friends and travelling whenever possible.
Naoto Tsuru
Research Analyst
Naoto is a Research Analyst at SIRIS, in charge of Asian research, mostly covering Japanese companies. He is a qualified US CPA and also has full membership of CPA Australia. Prior to joining SIRIS, Naoto worked as a financial analyst at a major listed company and a consulting firm in Japan. He holds Bachelor of Policy and Planning Sciences (Major in Management Science and Engineering) and Master of Science in Policy and Planning (Major in Quantitative Finance and Management), both from The University of Tsukuba, Japan.
Wendy Baxter
Research Analyst
Wendy is a Research Analyst at SIRIS with a strong background in environmental science and an avid interest in sustainability issues. She holds a BSc in Natural Resources from Cornell University in the USA and an MSc in Environmental Science from Wageningen University in the Netherlands. She previously worked as an Environmental Scientist at an environmental consulting firm based in Melbourne. In her spare time, Wendy enjoys rock climbing, cycling, seeing live music, travelling and spending time with family and friends.
Samet Sieu
Research Analyst
Samet is a part of the Asian research team at SIRIS. She obtained a combined degree for Accounting and Japanese from the University of Melbourne. She also studied at Ritsumeikan University in Japan on an exchange program. She has previously worked in China, Korea and Japan and is fluent in Japanese and Chinese. Samet's Asian language skill has expanded SIRIS' research capability for companies in these markets. Her interests include snowboarding, travelling and watching movies.
Shigenori Onoda
Research Analyst
Nori is a Research Analyst at SIRIS, in charge of Asian research, mostly covering Japanese companies. Nori has over 16 years of experience at one of the largest utility companies in Japan as a trader in Japan. He holds a Bachelor of Law and a Master of International Business.
Shelly Xue
Research Analyst
Shelly is a Research Analyst at SIRIS with a solid grounding of environmental science and a strong interest in sustainability issues. She holds a BSc in Chemistry from Fu Dan University in China and a Master degree in Environmental Science from The University of Melbourne. Shellyfs work experience in the environmental science and management spans in various industries including pharmaceuticals, renewable energy and mining, across the countries of Australia, China and Lao PDR. In her spare time, Shelly enjoys cooking, travelling and spending time with family and friends.
Christiane Latzel
Research Analyst (Part Time)
Christiane brings professional experience in the areas of environmental research, information technology, and a keen interest in sustainability issues to SIRIS. Currently working part-time as a research analyst at SIRIS, Christiane also enjoys outdoor activities and photography in her spare time. Christiane holds a Masters of Arts, majoring in Ecological Sustainable Development, and now studying Diploma in Environmental Management.
Lucia Dileva
Business Operations Manager
Lucia is the Business Operations Manager responsible for the overall efficiency of the SIRIS office. She brings with her 20 years administration skills with experience in marketing and manufacturing sectors. Her interests include interior design and spending time with her family. Lucia and her husband have 2 children, Matthew and Isabella.
Tasha Manoharan
Accountant
Tasha’s broad experience in Accounting covers all areas including Management Accounting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Foreign Currency and Taxation. Tasha holds a Diploma in Business Management (Accounting) from Chisholm Institute. In her spare time, Tasha enjoys walking, swimming, or reading a good book.
